Welcome!

This is where the Graves Family Association is collecting information in one placeabout the GRAVES, GREAVES, GRAVE, GREAVE, GREVE, GREVES, GRIEVE, GRIEVES, GRAFF, and GROFF surnames.

For the sake of brevity, we will use the surname GRAVES below, but we are including every variant of Graves as well as members of every country!

About the Graves Family Association

The beginnings of the association were very informal. Starting as early as 1877, General John Card Graves was collecting letters and doing interviews with family members to create the first collective Graves Family genealogies.

Kenneth Vance Graves collected this work and started the Graves Family Newsletter. After the desire for a genealogy association developed as a start of this work, the Graves Family Association was officially started in 1976. 985 genealogies were published by the time he passed away in 2022.

The Graves Family Association moved onto the Internet in 1997, and its first electronic newsletter was sent on 23 May 1997. Its Facebook Group was started for members to interact directly with one another on 1 October 2011.

Members from the Facebook group are continuing on the legacy of General John Card Graves and Kenneth Vance Graves to continue finding Graves families throughout the world and introduce them to one another. Plans are being made to update the published genealogies, create new ones, and use the findings of DNA studies at Family Tree DNA.

My grandmother was Mabel Maxwell Graves. Graves-2953. Her Gräff/Coft/Graves ancestors were Palatine Foreign Protestants who settled Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Always looking for more about them.

Jeff Graves here, researching gen 956 and how it may tie to other gens such as 169. Happy to join this new group.

Jeff, definitely looking forward to seeing more research on 956. We currently don't have any genealogies tied to it right now, so if you need any help creating the sticker, please let me know!

Concetta Phillipps, Graves Family Association

Hi Concenta, thanks for your reply. Although I am part of gen 956 (and gen 700), from a Y DNA view I am aligned with gen 169b. I'm new to wikitree, and didn't know what is meant by a sticker.

Once we've got at least one profile tagged, we can create the genealogy category on here so other people can see it too.

I'm researching Graves lines closely related to Gen 169.
